Appendix Nth

Since everyone else decided to do this today, I present to you Appendix Nth, American Barbarica edition (in no semblance of order):

-The Weird Triumvirate of R.E. Howard, H.P. Lovecraft, and C.A. Smith
-Jack Vance's Dying Earth cycle
-The Wild Bunch and The Magnificent Seven
-Le Morte D'Arthur (Mallory) and T.H. White's The Once and Future King (as well as Lerner & Loewe's Camelot, Boorman's Excalibur, and Camelot 3000 by Barr & Bolton)
-A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. LeGuin
-Gamma World (I used to use Gamma World monsters in my D&D games when I couldn't get my friends to play actual Gamma World).
-Star Trek (original series)
-Star Wars
-The Dark Crystal
-Buffy the Vampire Slayer
-Krull
-Almost every monster toy I've ever seen
-Doctor Who
-Robin Hood & his Merry Men by Howard Pyle (and the 80's Robin of Sherwood BBC Series)
-Thundarr the Barbarian
-The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolf
-Various and sundry Marvel comics (Silver-Bronze Age)
-Vincent Price (every time I create a characterization for a villain I spend about 15 minutes imagining how it could be improved by a little Vincent Price)
-The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
-Hawkwind (especially Space Ritual Vol.1 and A Warrior on the Edge of Time)
-Lankhmar books by Fritz Leiber
-Ray Harryhausen (truthfully, he might be one of the single biggest influences on this list)
-He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
-Blue Oyster Cult
-The Ramayana (novelization by Ramesh Menon)
-Brewster's Dictionary of Phrase & Fable
-The Larousse Encyclopedia of Mythology
-Doc Savage
-The Venture Bros.
-Music from the Lord of the Rings, by Bo Hansson (the sweet 70's prog record, not the movie soundtrack)
-Wistful memories of the weekend-long D&D sessions we had back then.

Probably not too many surprises here. Obviously, I've never run a single game in which all these influences came together as a unified whole, but that's probably for the best. More than anything this list captures the general vibe of my office, which is purposely filled with this kinda crap in order to inspire me.

Glad to see Hawkwind, BOC, and Bo Hansson on your list. The lyrics, presentation and musical vibes have been a big influence on my gaming as well.
